FAQs
-
Simple answer is yes. We would recommend you seek an expert or the company that originally installed your floor for specific advice.
-
To prevent scratches on your wooden floor it’s recommended to follow the guidelines below:
Use entrance matting
Remove heels and shoes
Protect furniture legs/feet with felt pads
Mop up any spillages as soon as possible.
Use the correct cleaner to help nourish your floor
Protect your floor if trade work is being carried out as building dust can be abrasive.
Always lift furniture and appliances when moving them.
-
Do not use any strong chemicals on the flooring, including washing up liquid, bleach, sugar-soap and any other abrasive cleaners. Do not use steam cleaners on the floor and limit the amount of water used when mopping the floor. Wood should only be cleaned with soft damp pads and the recommended nourishing cleaner for your specific floor.
-
Sunlight exposure will affect most floors to a degree. Wood is a natural material and will react in different ways to UV light. Usually this is a gradual reaction where most people wouldn’t notice from day to day. In rooms with large windows - especially those which are south facing - special care can be taken to reposition furniture and rugs to ensure an even colour across the floor. If UV causes tone differences across your floor this can settle down overtime once re-exposure to UV takes place.
-
Yes, take care when watering not to spill water around the base of any planter. Avoid using metal trays as these can react with water. It is a good idea to use protective non-reactive plastic mats beneath pots and trays.
-
Like with most flooring, pets claws can scratch your floors - please keep them well trimmed and protect the floor around your pets food and water bowls. It is also important to clean up any pet accidents immediately as these can be corrosive to the finish.
-
Yes, our floors can be used with underfloor heating. As with all wood floors it is critical that the heating is fully tested before installation and the temperature on the underside of the planks must not exceed 27ºC. The temperature should be consistent and not fluctuate excessively as this can cause drastic dimensional changes in the wood - for a complete guide to installation and using under floor heating please read our installation guidance.
-
We always recommend that the floor installation is the last part of your building or renovation project. One main reason is protecting the flooring against building dust or spillages. If you choose to install your flooring before your kitchen, make sure the floor is well protected and that nothing installed on top of it will restrict the floorings ability to expand and contract.
-
Before taking delivery ensure all wet trades, building work and where possible, all decorating is completed and allowed to thoroughly dry out. Follow our installation guidance and underfloor heating advice to ensure correct acclimatisation.
-
Yes. However if you order at a later date there maybe a batch difference. Speak to your flooring installer to discuss the best way to proceed.
-
Our pre-finished floors are usually available for delivery within a few days.
Our bespoke handmade floors are typically available in 3-4 weeks from point of order.
-
Your installer will be able to advise you on this. As a rough guide we say our floors will need re coating every 3-5 years, however this very much depends on the amount of traffic the floor receives, whether the house is shoes on or off, the area the floor is fitted in and what type of finish the floor has among other variations. It is also important to use the correct cleaner for your floor to prolong the finish.
-
Yes. In most applications the flooring can be installed before the skirtings are fitted or they can be removed and reinstalled after the flooring. This may be more difficult in a period property, however most flooring installers can advise on the best route to take if this is the case.
